e3 Global is a NSW-based company set up in 2007 by small business owners and environmental practitioners. Offering a turnkey solution for Australian small and medium enterprises wishing to decrease their carbon footprint, founder David Peart tells us about in their 'Carbon Challenge' initiative which has been developed to activate behavioural change in the workplace. 

How did e3 Global come to be?
I spend a lot of time outdoors and am conscious I’m right in the middle of climate change issues. Much reading and research has resulted in my growing passion to try and make a difference. I knew any approach to climate change in the small business sector had to take into account the varying dynamics of business, be meaningful to them and allow them to connect their ‘carbon conscious’ status to customers and the market place.

The result… committed business partners, environmental experts and the 60 Day Carbon Challenge.

How many staff do you have?
Our company is comprised of two executive directors, one national manager and one environmental scientist experienced in many areas of greenhouse gas accounting and environmental auditing. We are based in Sydney and Newcastle and currently conduct commercial dealings in the Sydney-metro area and Hunter Valley region with anticipated expansion of operations in 2008 and 2009 to engage SMEs Australia-wide.

What’s the story behind the 60 day carbon challenge?
e3 Global offers Australian small and medium business the opportunity to make their mark in the global climate change debate by participating in the 60-Day Carbon Challenge to reduce their carbon footprint by 20% or more.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from small and medium enterprises across Australia, the Challenge contain measures that aim to:

• inspire and engage business to be proactive in the climate change debate;
• reduce their electricity and resource use;
• provide strategies for adoption of behavioural changes within the workplace
• provide understanding into the benefits of cleaner, more efficient technologies and products

Why would a small business take part?
The Carbon Challenge is a great team building exercise and enables business to save money through better resource and electricity use. e3 Global will tailor the Challenge to suit the workplace and benefits will be apparent to all staff once they realise they are the key to reducing the business carbon footprint. 

What do we get out of it?
On successful reduction of your carbon footprint by 20% or more as a result of your Challenge activities, your business will earn the e3 ‘Green Tick – We’re Carbon Conscious’ certification and marker. The ‘Green Tick’ can be displayed on your premises and used in day-to-day marketing for a period of 12 months.
